This weekend, we each had a fun project to work on.
Thomas’ was something he came up with himself, that we’ve been needing for quite a while. He built a pot rack!
Here’s a view from further away, including our “pantry.”
My project was a bit more on the girly side. For a while now, I’ve been thinking of swatching all of my nail polishes on a nail wheel. I finally ordered a set of nail wheels this week (they were $4.84 including shipping for 5 wheels of 20 nails on Amazon) and they came in the mail Saturday.
So, here’s what I did (on a Saturday night while watching Office Space):
First, I organized my polish by color. I broke it down into 5 categories; pinks, reds, blues, purples, and neutrals.
I realize this is a really terrible picture, but you get the idea. It gets better.
Then, I started painting. I went back and forth about whether to paint the swatches like I would my own nail–base coat, two-three coats, top coat, or not. Ultimately, I decided to just do two coats of polish on each nail and reevaluate then. I was actually pretty please with the result, even though it did take me around two hours to paint all of them (I obviously really enjoyed myself, because I’m like that). So, here are the wheels:
The Neutrals: (from left, You Don’t know Jacques, Espresso Yourself, Glitzerland, Not Like the Movies, Urban Outfitters Grey #4, Sally Hansen Gunmetal, It’s Totally Fort Worth It, Alpine Snow, and Suzi Skiis in the Pyreneese).
The Purples: (from left; Louvre Me, Louvre Me Not, Forever 21 Purple, ??, Russian Navy.
The Reds: (from left; Cajun Shrimp, Sally Hansen Rapid Red, You Rock-apulco Red!, Wet-n-Wild 216, Ulta Plum Street, ??, Smitten With Mittens, Revlon Vixen, Royal Rajah Ruby, Brisbane Bronze).
The Pinks: (from left; The One That Got Away, Too Hot Pink to Hold Em’, Revlon Cherries in the Snow, Peru-B-Ruby, Conquistadorable Color, Pompeii Purple, Koala Bear-y, Forever 21 Hot Pink, Del Sol Foxy, Don’t Know…Beets Me!, Cozu-Melted in the Sun!, Teenage Dream, Excuse Moi!)
The Blues/Greens: (from left; Yoga-ta Get this Blue!, Forever 21 Navy, Pure Ice French Kiss, Cuckoo for This Color, Austin-tatious Turquoise!, I Have a Herring Problem, Here Today…Aragon Tomorrow, Jade is the New Black, Forever 21 Mint, Wet-n-Wild Caribbean Frost, Did It On Em’)
Finally, I labeled the swatches. This is something that I’m still not 100% sure about, but here’s what I’ve done for now:
Each OPI color has a color code, as do most others. So, for now, I’ve written the color code from the bottom of the bottle on the back of each nail. Some nails are darker than others, but I promise you that in real life I can read every color code on every nail. I may end up working something out in Illustrator to create a better labelling system, but we’ll see.
I hope you had a lovely weekend!
